This one has to be in our TOP 10 wild bivouacs in 4 years 🤯

At 4150m, with a view on the Yading Nature Reserve and its twin Peaks; Xiannairi Peak at 5998m and Yangmaiyong Peak at 6033m.

Shangri La, Yunnan 🇨🇳

Monasteries, prayer flags, ancient city center, traditional singing and dances, dirt tracks into the valleys, Yaks, and geysers. This area of the Yunnan province is full of surprises!

At 3500m, the city of Shangri La borders between the Yunnan and Tibet region. Already at such a high elevation, it’s the base city before the even bigger mountains… you have 2 choices; head west and enter Tibet and further into the Himalayas, or head north-east and enter Sichuan and the high mountains still averaging 3-6000n altitudes. Well, we actually have no choice to head north-east for now as we’ll need a guide for Tibet, which is planned for April.

Into the high mountains we go, in the middle of winter! ❄️ 🥶 🏔️

Everyday is a whole new adventure, at every corner another breathtaking mountain, valley, ancient city, lake, mountain pass, and sunset. An Adventure and road trip at every corner. Not to forget, the Chinese have been more than generous, kind, helpful and caring with us!

It started with a ‘hello’, we ended up staying 3 days!

Say ‘yes’ to invitations. You never know what’s behind, but to us, it’s only been 100% pleasant encounters and enhanced travel memories for the past 3.5 years. What started with a hello at the post office, developed to a ‘can I offer you tea’, to ‘why don’t you stay the night’… and 3 days later, here we are 🥳 you know that feeling when it clicks quickly and you feel like you’ve always know each other? Well that’s how it felt, part of the family, part of their lives. 🫶

The hardest part, having to say goodbye, and to hope we actually do get to see them again! We could have stayed longer, maybe we should have… but China is massive, and we only have 3 months. So for now, it’s a see you soon!
